Washington Colony Cemetery District was established in 1936 under the California Public Cemetery District Law. We are an independent special district committed to meeting the cultural, economic, religious, and social burial needs of the southwest central portion of Fresno County, including the communities of Caruthers, Easton, and Raisin City.
Our adopted mission is:
“To provide interment services to families in a respectful and dignified manner.”
Governed by a dedicated three-member board of trustees appointed by Fresno County Supervisors from Districts 1 and 4, the board oversees all aspects of district operations. Trustees are residents within the District boundaries, serving four-year terms to ensure local representation and accountability.
The board appoints a General Manager responsible for managing daily operations, assisted by an Office Manager and two groundskeepers, who maintain the cemetery with the highest standards of care.
In compliance with state laws and promoting transparency and accountability, our longstanding practices include:
Monthly public board meetings held on the second Monday at 1:00 p.m. at our District office (7318 S. Elm Avenue, Fresno, CA 93706).
Meeting notices, agendas, and previous meeting minutes posted at the District office at least 72 hours prior, in accordance with the Brown Act.
Formalized board decisions documented through signed resolutions and meeting minutes.
The District is continually improving its administrative policies and procedures, including conflict-of-interest guidelines, to reinforce consistent governance and transparency.
We remain dedicated to providing compassionate services, maintaining our cemetery grounds meticulously, and honoring every family we serve.
